From Madrid to the coast

Madrid

 

Day 1: Flight to Madrid
Flight to Madrid and arrival at the airport. There you will be welcomed by our local host and have your transfer to the hotel. Arrival at your hotel and dinner in restaurant 'La Terraza de Salud'. Overnight stay in Hotel II Castillas 3* (or similar) in Madrid.

 

Day 2: Madrid - Segovia
Breakfast - We visit Segovia. The Roman empire left us a 16 km long aqueduct. It was home to several Castilian kings. We will visit the elegant cathedral and the Alcazar, the most spectacular castle of the country.
Free lunch - In the afternoon we make a panoramic tour through the city of Madrid. We explore the medieval Moorish borough, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Plaza de la Villa, the Madrid of the 'Bourbons' and the urbanized lay-out of Carlos III. But also the royal palace, the Cibeles fountain of Neptune and the gate Alcalà. Further you have the elegant Plaza de Oriente, the Paseo de Recoletos and Castellana, on of the most important roads through the city. We cross the city from North to South, with tons of palaces and squares. But also the historical post office, the national library, the Plaza de Colón and so on.

Day 3: Madrid - Toledo
Breakfast - At 70 km away from Madrid you can find the town of Toledo, which can be considered as a museum as well. It has been called the 'City of the three cultures'; Jewish, Muslim and Christian. De buildings stem from several eras in the history of Toledo (Arab, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque). It was also the home town for painter 'El Greco' in the 16th century.


We visit the cathedral, from which the architecture shows you all phases of Spanish gothic. The interior includes several pieces of art. Afterwards, we bring a visit to the church of Santo Tome, where you can find another masterpiece of 'El Greco'. At the end of our visit, we make a stroll through the old Jewish borough with its narrow streets. We see the synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca, the church of San Juan de Los Reyes and the museum of Victorio Macho, situated on a cliff with an astonishing view.


Remark: Visit to the cathedral, the church and the museum are not included. Diner and overnight stay at hotel Toledo Carlos IV (or similar) in Toledo

 

Day 4: Toledo - Cordoba
Breakfast - We continue our trip from Toledo to Cordoba. Free lunch. Diner and overnight stay at hotel Tryp Los Gallos 3* (or similar) in Cordoba.

 

Day 5: Cordoba
Breakfast - Visit to Cordoba, one of the diamonds of Andalucia. Situated at the banks of the river Guadalquivir. De city's fame is a result of a unique combination of Jewish, Moorish and Christian influences. We visit the Mezquita, a mosque that has been build in the 8th century and that has been transformed to a cathedral later. Afterwards we go to the Jewish borough with its synagogue and the labyrinth of white, narrow streets. Visit to the synagogue and the mosk are included. Lunch**.
Diner and overnight stay at hotel Tryp Los Gallos 3* (or similar) in Cordoba.

 

Day 6: Cordoba - Sevilla
Exploration of Sevilla, the capital of Andalucia and the center for art and music lovers. We visit the historical city center and its monuments like the borough Santa Cruz aside of the Alcazar palace, the cathedral (entrance included), the famous tower of Giralda and the Plaza de España. There we find a huge, half round building, that has been build for the world exhibition of 1929. We also bring a visit to the great amount of fountains, statues and tropical trees in the surrounding Parque de Maria Luisa. A parc that has been created in the 19th century on behalf of Frenchman Forestier. Entrance to the cathedral and the Alcazar are included. Later on you'll have free time to stroll around in the cosy little streets of Sevilla. You can make a boat trip as well (not included). Free lunch. Diner and overnight stay at hotel Doña Carmela 3* (or similar) in Sevilla.

 

Day 7: Sevilla - Granada
Breakfast - Visit to Granada, the magnificent city with its most important and world famous monument; the Alhambra. Further, Granada cityscape is marked by the heights of the Sierra Nevada as well, covered in snow during winter. We visit the Alhambra (included), a medieval palace/fort, situated on the hills next to the gardens of Generalife, the second mansion of the sultans of Granada. Both monuments are remainings from the 781 years lasting Moorish domination. Lunch**. In the afternoon we make a stroll through the streets of a Moorish borough 'Albayzin', situated on the hills on the opposite of the Alhambra. There is some free time to discover the borough 'Alcaiceria' as well with your guide if you want to. There you can find the old bazar, the Royal chapel and the cathedral (entrance not included). Diner and overnight stay in hotel Macia Monasterio de los Basilios 3* (or similar) in Granada.

 

Day 8: Granada - Almuñecar
Breakfast - Transfer from Granada to the cosy coastal town of Almuñecar. Lunch, diner and overnight stay at Hotel Helios 3* in Almuñecar.

 

Day 9: Amuñecar
Breakfast - We visit the Arab castle and the archeological mesum. Further, we also see the current tourism office, 'El Palacete de la Najarra' and its beautiful garden. At the opposite you can find the botanical garden 'El parque del Majuelo'. To bring all that to a nice end, we will have a nice local wine in one of the cosy tapas bars in the city center of Almuñecar. Later, you have a free afternoon. Lunch, diner and overnight stay at Hotel Helios 3* in Almuñecar. 

 

Day 10: Almuñecar - Back home
After some free time, a transfer will bring you to the airport of Malaga, where you will have your flight back home. Depending from the flight hours, you still can enjoy lunch at the hotel. If not, you can get a take away lunch.
